How to make wax sculpture at home. A very simple and safe way to melt wax. You can quickly melt a candle and then use that melted candle to make a wax sculpture. You can either cut down a large block for a small sculpture or you can join two blocks together by running a hot spatula between them.
Generally start with the spine of the piece and create branches for the limbs. Plus there are all kinds of wax candles. Using your design sketch can be helpful for forming the armature especially if the sketch was made to-scale.
You can use beeswax or paraffin wax from a hobby retailer or remove the wick from used candles and use them. Depending on the type of mix that you are making the wax might stick a little to the pan even at room temperature but a few minutes in a freezer or refrigerator will cure that. Candles are not only cheap.
Then how to use the wax to make a sculpture. Make sure theres enough wax. Prepare a solid block of wax for carving.
This will melt the wax slightly and the two blocks will become one. You dont want it to be frozen just to harden just enough. Crumble or cut the wax into small pieces so they melt faster then throw them into the smaller pan.
